Kia ora, I'm Maxwell, a 35 year old therapist based Ōtautahi Christchurch, New Zealand.

I specialise in supporting tāne / men from adolescence onward.

I have extensive experience and training to help those dealing with porn and substance addiction, bereavement, and relationship stress.

While these are areas I feel privileged to work in often, I welcome clients of all genders and from all walks of life. My values and life experience grant me the space to support individuals who feel caught in the negative patterns of life.

My practice can be either in-person or online.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Three years extensive counselling training at Laidlaw College (Bachelor of Counselling, 2022)

  • Post-Grad diploma in Foundational Counselling from University of Canterbury

  • Counselling adult men at Tane Whai Ora, Canterbury Men’s Centre

  • Counselling teens at Hagley High School

  • 1-on-1 support work at Nova Trust Addictions clinic

  • 1-on-1 support work for Hohepa Trust (disability support work, Oranga Tamariki support work)

  • Specialist Narrative and Person Centred therapist

For Low Incomes - $110

For full time/stable income - $125

For businesses or insurance - $145

After Hours (after 5:30pm, Saturdays) - $145

I am a WINZ-registered counselling provider. This means you may be eligible to receive funding for counselling through WINZ’s Disability Allowance - even if you’re not on a benefit.

  • Counselling is a collaborative process. We talk together and figure out the best way to support you.

  • Either In-Person or Online is great

  • Yes. Whānau connections are an important part of the therapy process

  • 50 - 60 minutes

  • Everything we talk about is kept between us. However, there are some exceptions to this regarding your personal safety. We will talk through this more in our first session

  • Every person will require a different amount of time to work towards their goals. It completely depends on your needs and your expectations. Some people want weekly, others want monthly, or fortnightly. Sometimes, one session is enough

  • No. If something is bothering you, it’s worth talking through with someone
